One of the much loved features of spring across East Asia is the blooming of the sakura or cherry blossoms. These colorful flowers bloom for a few short days and weeks usually beginning around the time of lunar new year. By April, it’s all over for another year. During the six weeks or thereabouts that the season runs, thousands of tourists and nature lovers flock to sites such as Yangminshan National Park, Wulai, Alishan and Sun Moon Lake to take in the vibrant colors of the sakura. The cherry blossoms can still be seen blooming now, so if you’re looking for something to do one fine, spring day, head out to one of the cherry blossom locations before it’s too late.
