Bira Beach, approximately 4,5 hours from capital of South Sulawesi Province, Makassar (Indonesia). The Beach is rather infamous because mostly tourists are local from surrounding area. The clear water and sky and swimming is something that could cheer your day in one fine afternoon. This place is never really promoted before even nationally. I hope our government would do something about this because the beach is unbelievably attractive and the white sands that scattered around the shore is really pretty.
Before reaching the beach (approximately 25 minutes from bira), you will pass the village where locals build traditional ship. The famous “PINISHI” Ship is actually produced in this village, and they still continue producing ship till now. It’s also could be additional bonus for your trip if you happen to visit Bira.
There is not yet proper accomodation in this beach except for some very simple lodge are ready to rent. But some people say there are one good resort nearby this beach called Kaluku Resort. And it can only be reached by motorcycle. If you happen to visit South Sulawesi this place is something that can’t be missed. There also some ships that can be rent to drop you to another islands and you can do some diving or snorkeling activities.
If you don’t want to stay overnight in the beach, alternatively, you can make a round-trip day from Makassar – Bira. You can rent a car from Makassar to this place around IDR 35o,ooo (US $ 35) for whole day. You can go really early in the morning, swim and wait until the sunset and go back to Makassar at the same day.
Makassar is quite big city where you can find hotels from budget to 5 star. International Flights will mostly transit to Jakarta before going to this city. Alternatively, you can fly Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur directly to Makassar 4 times a Week.
I’ll see you in my next posts (most likely, I will introduce you to Makassar, where my mom is originally from)
Ciao!!!
If you're crazy for blue water, then...

Wow, that’s some blue water! I guess it’s not that deep, is it? Can you explain more about PINISHI ship? I read your post and I’m very interested on what distinguishes this ship from other ships. And thank you for giving us tips on this off-the-beat-path destination. Will be reading more from you!

Hey, Thanks for reading and leave some comment, appreciate it indeed. I can give you brief explanation about Pinishi itself. It’s originally Wood ship made by people in Sulawesi Island. It used to transport people/For Fisher in the past and so on. Ships are handmade, there is no machine involved..you can google to find more information. Unfortunately i haven’t had chance to take some of its original picture in the village, but the next time i go there i will definetely go..Thanks for wanting to keep up with my next posts..too bad i only have time to post during weekend because of work..But i try my best to post other reviews next time. Cheers.
